Notes.
1. América Cochahuayco was taken - as a 'reserve team' by Universitario de
Deportes (from First Division) and change its name to Universitario de
América.
2. Because Alcides Vigo and Deportivo Yurimaguas tied on points the first
place a playoff was necessary.
3. By the end of 1996 First Divison was reduced from 16 to 14 teams. Therefore
Second Division grew to 14 teams as 3 teams were relegated.
4. For 1997: San Agustín, Ciclista Lima, and Guardia Republicana were
relegated from First Division; A.E.L.U. and Unión Supe came
promoted from Copa Perú.
